Get Your Texas License to Carry — Here's Exactly How
Gideon Training Solutions delivers state-approved LTC classes across DFW and North Texas.
Any law-abiding Texas resident 21 or older can apply for a License to Carry. The process starts with a state-approved class that covers Texas gun laws, safe handling, and use-of-force rules — typically completed in four to six hours. After the classroom portion, you pass a straightforward shooting qualification at three distances. Once your DPS application is submitted and approved, your LTC card arrives by mail and is valid for five years.
Five Steps to Your Texas LTC
Confirm Your Eligibility
You must be 21 or older (18 for active military), a Texas resident or eligible non-resident, and free of disqualifying criminal history. Most law-abiding Texans qualify on the first check.
Complete the Classroom Course
Attend a state-approved LTC class covering Texas gun laws, use of force, safe storage, and non-violent dispute resolution. Gideon Training Solutions offers both in-person and online options across DFW.
Pass the Shooting Qualification
Demonstrate basic proficiency at 3, 7, and 15 yards with a handgun. The qualification is straightforward — Hilton Jackson walks every student through exactly what to expect before you step to the line.
Submit Your DPS Application
Apply online through the Texas DPS portal, submit fingerprints at an approved location, and pay the state fee. Your instructor provides the certificate you need to complete the application.
Receive Your LTC Card
DPS processes most applications within 60 days. Once approved, your Texas LTC card arrives by mail and is valid for five years statewide.
